Would you "do" a cassette toilet?

I have a Thetford 565 porta potty and used it for 2 months last winter in Florida with no problems. We just got back from a month trip to the Pacific (Milwaukee to Seattle, up and down, up and down) and had this problem of cassette contents leaking into the 2 "wells" found between the two halves of the cassette, one underneath where the spout is positioned. I even stuffed rolled up toweling to sop up the leakage. I ordered a new rubber ring, but frankly the old one looks fine so I didnt replace it yet. But now I am wondering if the pressure changes were causing the leakage? What say, group?
