- cableguy574ExplorerIt was the batteries that were bad, for new ones from Sam's got Napa batteries and everything was is normal
- 2oldmanExplorer IIOP, your turn.
- MrWizardModeratorIt's higher than normal VOLTS, that kills the electronics, not the amps the batteries are absorbing
- RayChezExplorerIf you have the Xantrex 458, you are probably turning on the equalizing feature. If you are you got to be careful because the amps go way up and you could toast some of the fragile electrical boards.
If you press SETUP AND CHARGE at the same time on the panel it will start the equalizing of the house batteries and your LED lights which shows the charging will go way up to around 14.5 volts. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIAre you saying you have a Prosine 2.0, 2,000 watt inverter/converter.
You said when you turn on the CHARGER it goes to 100 and then Error and why is it drawing so much. You are confused.
When you turn on the charger.. The maximum output of a Prosine 2.0 is 100 amps DC not drawn on the batteries but rater delivered to them.. a charge rate of 100 means you have programmed it inverter to deliver maximum (As I have) and you have either a SHORTED battery or a SHORTED lead (And a heavy one at that) or a very large battery band that is very very low (I have 550 amp hours, most of it new within the last year (I think 2000 amps was 2011) and if they are low (12 volt or less) they will suck 99 amps, I assume 100, but I saw 99, for a very brief period.
I'm guessing the error is "Shorted battery".
If it is a prosine you can go into set up mode (Download the manual if you do not have it) and read teh last 10 error codes.. Tell us what the code is and I can compare it to my manual.
Also in Installer (Setup) mode you can throttle the chager (Limit it's output) by, for example, turning down the "AC BREAKER SIZE" 10 amps should control it.
This will cause the charger to suck LESS than 10 amps, which means roughly 80-90 is now your max DC out. - 2oldmanExplorer IIWe can't figure it out either, until you tell us:
a) what era means
b) how many batteries you have
c) whether this is an abnormal occurrence - John___AngelaExplorer

I suspect you have a battery issue.
You can set the charge rate to what the max the battery should have.
You still didn't answer what "era" is. That's new to me too.
Yepir. If your batteries are low 100 amps would be normal depending on how many batteries etc. The "era" thing I don't know. Is it reading "error". If so does it have an error code? - MrWizardModeratorGuess he means "ERROR"
Should carry the 100 amps or what ever amount the batteries Wil accept
My guess, bad battery, or shorted cable, the error is because the load is trying to exceed the 100 amp capability of the charger section - Canadian_RainbiExplorerI have a Xantrex Prosine 2.0 If the batteries are low it will charge at 96A (The level I set) then decrease.
