Yes and yes. I placed a 20-amp fuse just inches from the inverter. If something goes wrong, the fuse will blow, and there will only be inches of active wire.
The macerator also has a fuse in the controller handle.
I would think that the inverter would need more than two amps to operate, but I have no better explanation for now.
