Year of RV Doesn't Match Floorplan

I'm thinking the chassis may have been manufactured in 2001, even though the coach was completed as a 2002 model. Would that account for it being titled as a 2001?

I think a better explanation is the floor plan was a late 2001 release and didn't make the 2001 brochure. It happens all the time.

I know Freightliner chassis vehicle number is only 6 digits long ( last 6 of VIN) The other characters are from the body builder. So in theory the chassis could be made a entire year before the body builder finished it. Chances are your tires would be even older.
I don't think it happens to much any more since the turn down of 2008-09. I know my engine was made in Jan 2015 and the coach was finished in March 2015 and sold in July. Pretty fast turn around time

My 09 Winnebago had an 08 chassis and my 12 Winnebago has a 11 chassis so yes its still happening do not know why he thought it was not

And my parents had an '05 built on an '06 chassis, so it happens both ways for sure.

To the OP, in some way every one of these RVs is unique. A floorplan or option can change on an owners whim.

When we ordered our '00 Dutch Star gasser added a drivers door, yet nowhere on any order sheet will you find that as an option.

They are not stretching the date it is the law. They are the final assembly manufacturer and declare the "manufacture date" not the chassis manufacturer.

Exactly... As far as titling goes, the chassis is just another component sub-assembly of the finished vehicle. No different than the radio or air conditioner.

The CHASSIS vin IS the complete VIN (17 DIGITS)and designated by the chassis maker. The body builder(RV Maker) does NOT add any digits. They DO have their OWN separate VIN for the Body they install. Doug

Hi,

Our GBM motorhome is built using a 2004 floor plan. When we ordered it (Mid May of 2004) they were already building the 2005's. So it was built as a 2005 with the 2004 dual sofa floor plan, which wasn't available for the 2005 model year. They added LE (Limited Edition) to the Cruise Master graphics on the side, but you won't see LE listed in any of the guides. So we were able to get the discontinued 2004 floor plan we wanted on our 2005 motorhome.

Couple that with the fact that sometimes the state the motorhome is registered in can get confused between the chassis manufacture date and the motorhome manufacture date, there can be a discrepancy in the actual model year of the motorhome. Ours, for instance, is titled and registered as a 2005. But in some states it could be registered as a 2004. But you won't find our model in a 2005 listing.

Anyway, yes, it can get confusing. What you're doing is probably the best you can hope for: Check the floor plans for the adjacent model years.
