Of course it's about the bottom line, they are in the BUSINESS to make MONEY! Is the American public so naive to think that resturants or any other business for that matter wouldn't employ any and all sciences and techniques to make it more profitable? :S
That's the point I was trying to get across, 'it's all about the bottom line', I thought my statement was short and to the point. :C - Super_DaveExplorerI heard where Denny's banned you nickel a cup coots for tying up a booth all day drinking coffee for the price of one cup. ;-)
- TexasShadowExplorer IIput me in the nickel a cup for coffee and free refills era. or sometimes free with the meal. I don't mind paying for coffee or tea but the mark up is highway robbery.

a lot of talk and no mention of the biggest theft at a restaurant, charging for drinks. one Chinese restaurant charged $1.69 for hot tea, and it was just hot water with one tea bag. ordered water there ever since. unless it is included in the price, it is always only water for me.
bumpy - rickeoniExplorerShame , Shame...another greedy business trying to make a profit. What is this world coming too?

But even at a nickel, it wasn't free, and that was in the era where a nickel was more than extra weight in your pocket.kcmoedoe wrote:

How the heck old are you that drinks were not an extra cost? Never in my lifetime. Water is still free and everything else should cost more since I prefer to pay for what I consume, not pay for what someone else might. IMO, the biggest ripoff is the price of drinks...any kind other than water.
Amen to that. I can remember when the drink was included at no extra charge almost everywhere. Now some places want $1.99 for a glass of iced tea...ridiculous.
Heck, I'm so old I can remember when coffee was a nickel a cup and you got refills. - RandACampinExplorer II

I know I'm being "ripped off" when I buy soft drinks but I also know this is their bread and butter. The idea that their somehow taking advantage of us by trying to up-sell absurd. Of course they trying to sell us stuff - they're not our friends, they're trying to make a living and we should know that when we walk through the door.
