AVOCADO HINT - forgot to share an Avocado Hint which read and which works ... since we often only eat 1/2 the Avocado between us at one setting, we always had brown leftovers .. well .. we did as the Hint said and yesterday we put a half of an onion in the plastic ziploc bag along with the unpeeled 1/2 Avocado, and today we had a perfect Avocado - green and pretty .. looked and tasted good in our green salad both yesterday and today. The Hint said that apparently the onion gives off a chemical which keeps the Avocado from turning brown. And now am wondering if this is the reason that most fixings with Avocado have diced onion in the mix .. Hope this helps others.

Another tip, especially for guacamole is to put the pit back into the guacamole and it will not turn brown. It stays a pretty nice green color.

I'll try the onion tip.We usually squirt some lemon or lime juice on the exposed portion of the avocado with the pit still in place, and have had mixed results.So the rumor is that the Mexican cartel (Knights Templar) is maneuvering to control avocado sales and production, as they are currently doing with limes. We need to preserve them well, because they are going to get expensive.

Mama always put the pit back into the uneaten half...and it also worked to put it in the guacamole until ready to serve.

Left over Avocado......never heard of such a thing!:BWe eat them with a little salt, pepper and a spoon.......

Have tried leaving the pit in, but always turned yucky on us, this way it has not turned yucky and it has been 2 days now .. we love a few chunks in a green salad, but not sharing a whole avocado .. so this works for us.

Also noticed that the ones from Chile turned brown before taking skin off .. three four away before found a good Chile grown avocado.

Highly doubt it......

I worked for a 'developer' in late 70's.
We built 100's of homes in Monrovia & Durate.
Acres of mature Avocado Trees.

I took boxes, boxes & boxes of ripe Avocados before the bulldozers showed up. BIG beautiful Avocados.

Now there are just tract homes..........all the same color, same roofs ticky-tac.

Avocado, potatoes, bananas, what have you, a little lemon juice or a dip in lemon juice in water will prevent browning. We keep a bottle of the concentrate just for this purpose.
