Have never used it over the fire or coals. Do have it seasoned though.
Just wondered what kind of luck people have had with it and their tips for using. terry r. - NYCgrrlExplorerColeman still makes one and it was rated 2nd best of all manual WI at Cook's Illustrated. Rome's was rated 3rd best and NordicWare came in first. Received the Coleman as a birthday present and haven't used it yet. It's a tad on the small side(only makes 2 waffles at a time and I really only do waffles for 4+ people) sooo it'll prolly get re-gifted to a single person,LOL.
- Super_DaveExplorerWhen our daughter was in high school she loved waffles so we bought her a $20 electric waffle maker. The red light / green light made it so simple and they were great waffles. We are always with some kind of power so that would be the way I would go for making waffles on a camping trip.
- SWMOExplorerI believe Rome still makes one. Google pie irons.

And you have to buy as an option the waffle iron plats. Griddler is really handy, clean up so easy. But it does need elec. And it ended up taking the place of other cooking stuff. WOW can't believe I made a comment on cooking. I'm not that good and still learning but getting better. - WrongWayRandallExplorerWe have been looking at a cast iron waffle iron - two piece variety, but have only used them in the kitchen setting rather than in camp. Are you looking for something to cook over an RV range top or the campfire?
