You'll find that outdoor dutch ovens are meant to be more of an oven (heat on top and bottom) than stovetop cookware (bottom heat). The best way to translate camping d.o. recipes to your home is to use your indoor oven at your house.
You will have more success if you try it in your own indoor oven in a deep casserole dish or preferably a cast iron d.o. for the indoor oven (no legs). Here are some great d.o. examples for indoor ovens. Lodge Dutch Ovens
We have two sizes for the house and they both were hand-me-downs. Lodge has excellent quality control so these puppies will last several generations as long as they aren't doused in cold water while hot or used for target practice. My wife says they make great "husband tamers" too. :E I'm not sure what she means by that but I'm not going to question it.
