It's a guarded secret,and my wife won't give it to me.;) I'll get it a post it.

We've only made it once in the DO, and it was real good, but I'm thinking of a variation with apples, whoa just got a chile thinking about how good it might be. May have to make it this weekend.

The cherry with chocolate cake mix is good. I have made it with and with out the DR. Pepper. I usually put the fruit in the bottom then the cake mix on top.

Peach, apple, 3 berry (blackberry, raspberry, blueberry frozen mix from Aldi's) are others I have made.

Top any of them with homemade ice cream, even better.

Here's the recipe that I made for our Boy Scout Troop

Required
Aluminum pie tin
Ingredients:
1 Chocolate cake mix 
1 can Cherry pie filling 
1 can soda pop - cherry or lemon lime
1 Hershey chocolate bar 
chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions:
Dump pie filling into pie tin.
Sprinkle about 3/4 of cake mix on top in even layer.
Pour half can of soda around on top of cake mix.
Stir soda into cake mix, leaving the pie filling alone as much as possible.
Break chocoloate into small pieces and place on top.
Sprinkle walnuts on top.
Place pie tin in dutch oven, setting it on top of four small pebbles for air circulation.
Cover with dutch oven lid and set on a small ring of coals. Cover the lid with coals.
Cook at about 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes, or until the cake looks done when cut or poked.

Another way to mix the mix:
Sprinkle about 1/3 of the cake mix over the pie filling. Then, pour soda right into the cake mix bag and knead the bag with your hands on the outside to mix. Once mixed, pour into the dutch oven.

You don't really need the pie tin. You can make it directly in the dutch oven.

About 8 servings.

bcarroll, your "cobbler" is what I believe D.O. afcionados have called, "dump cake" for many of years.

I think cooking with the soda is a new rage. I just tried a bisquit biscuit recipe that used 7-up. Also have a new recipe for angel food cake mix with orange or lemon soda. Haven't tried those yet.

I too have done the chocolate version using Dr. Pepper. Another little twist is we saved some of the dry mix and sprinkled on top and then layed a couple of Hershey bars on top of that. WOW!!! Chocolate craving satisfied!
