I know that most of us have had an electric fry pan at some point of our lives. Got one back in the 70s, but really haven't used one in about 25 years. While snowbirding the past few years I feel that cooking certain things on the gas stove in our 5th wheel is difficult due to the high heat produced by the burners. They are hard to turn down to a less hot temp, especially when doing something like pancakes. BTW, I cook on electric at home. Are any of you doing much cooking with your electric fry pan while camping? We're thinking of getting a new one and wonder if they've changed much in the past umpteen years. Any recommendations? Is an electric griddle an option?

Instead of a fry 0an consider something like the Cuisinart Griddler. With two different cooking plates, you can make sandwiches or pancakes. Personally I like cooking with gas. Easy to regulate, quick response time. BTW last house we had Halogen electric burners, so we got used to fast heat response times a long time ago.

Farberware makes one, but it is very large. It also has a high dome lid making storage doubly difficult.Square ones hold a lot more food.EDIT : Well ours must be a "vintage" model that is no longer in production. The current model is square and has a glass lid.

Yes, I use mine all the time. When the weather is nice, I like to use the skillet outside on a small folding table. I also have an electric griddle; we like to have pancakes, bacon, and eggs for Sunday breakfast, so skillet and griddle both get used on Sunday. I use an electric kettle for coffee or tea. I have 30-amp service, so I have to be careful not to use all three at the same time if the AC is on.

We do all of our cooking outside on either the electric griddle, a single burner butane stove, or the Weber Q. So yes the electric is used mostly for bacon and eggs.

A good alternative is a induction cook plate. The temps are very accurate and it provides the flexibility of using different skillets, pots and pans as long as they are made from metal that a magnet will stick to. Aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous metals won't work.

Oh, you came to the right person here! We've been using flat electric griddles (Presto) and really don't like fixing meals any other way. I run an extension cord directly from the shore power plug to the griddle or electric skillet.

Use used Coleman camp stoves for years, even one with a flat griddle. Still nasty to clean up, especially if fixing certain meats. Open fires are to eradicate to control temperatures. Propane stove inside the camper makes the inside of the camper unbearable hot! Electric skillet and electric griddles work great, both inside and out. Been doing it this way for years and years now.

Hi,

I prefer the NuWave induction cooker. My pots and frying pan were all compatible.

I do use a small George Foreman grill, too.

Yes we use ours whenever we have power. Got it at a garage sale. Looks to be from seventies. Works great

We use ours all the time. Along with two Nu Wave Induction cookers. Our propane stove is only uncovered to clean it.

We really like our Broil King PCG-10, electric griddle. It is great for anything from pancakes to kielbasa. Gets 4 star reviews on amazon, and is relatively affordable. Only downside is with daily use they tend to wear out in a couple of years, but given the price and performance, we just keep replacing them.

I have a burner diffuser that I can put between the burner and the pan and do a slow cook. If you do a search online you should find one. They do work.

I had electric growing up. Now it is gas at home and in the RV. I prefer gas any day and pancakes are never an issue.

My primary cooking tools when camping are:

(1) crockpot
(2) electric frying pan
(3) if it's an extended camping trip (more than just a w/e), I'll take my Blackstone 4 burner griddle and do virtually all cooking on it - from burgers or brats/sausages to breakfast.

I do have a portable table-top grill - use it maybe twice a season.
