Hooking grill to my built in gas line

I have an Aussie bumper mounted grill on my TT and to be honest, it kinda sucks. It works, but it's more of a toaster than a grill in terms of cooking ability. I wouldn't put a decent steak on it, let's just put it that way. I'd like to replace this grill with a Weber Q. I've been using a Coleman Road Trip grill, but it's old and takes up space in the TT. I have a built in gas line that runs under the TT to the bumper area and I've heard you can't hook a normal grill up to it because the pressure is regulated too low..or something of that nature.

Does anyone have experience with replacing a bumper mounted grill with a Weber Q or other portable grill? Do I just need a connector hose that will work with the TT and whatever the new grill is? I'd like to know whats up before I purchase a new grill, so I can be sure it'll work.

  • Yup. Easy to do, but you need the right grill. You need one that you can remove the grill's regulator. From there it is simply a matter of plumbing.
  • Yes, I did exact same thing. Everything I needed I purchased from Lowes. 10 foot quick connect hose, quick connect adapters (I think came with hose) and brass reducers for the Weber. You have to remove the regulator from the Weber.
I found hose in grill section. It is a gray natural gas conversion kit designed for patio home grill. It is designed for low pressure (after regulator) which is what your bumper quick connect propane supply already is. I think everything cost around $30. Make sure you use dope on threads designed for gas applications. Let me know if you need Lowes Web link for hose.
Forgot to mention, the brass threaded reducers you need between Weber valve and quick connect for hose can be found in plumbing section. Just bring your removed Weber regulator with you.
Another thing I did was relocate the rear bumper quick connect to the side of trailer for better access an location of grill. That is another topic.
