For one thing, it calls for fresh beans...but perhaps the most important present omission is that of the traditional celery salt. I refer of course to the First Known Incident of anyone ever having been aware that green beans, whether fresh or canned, could be combined with canned soup of any kind.

On purpose, I mean.

And it was served to no less a personage than THE QUEEN of IRAN!!!

WTH am I doing to it?? :h I'm comparing the original "green bean casserole" to a recipe with fresh beans (not canned) and some ingredients that give it some flavor and life. I think whole berry cranberry is more authentic. Doubtful the cranberry was jellied back in the days of the original Thanksgiving. :-)

All easy, I do the bird and stuffing, the guests are doing desert, which is going to be a homemade chocolate ganache! The girls do the sides and the guys play cribbage with an eye on the football games.

Got a new poll question. How could one meal cost so freaking much money when you are doing all the work yourself? I'm most of the way through my grocery list but sure I'm not done yet. This is crazy!!!!

You can also get low sodium green beans. I love this dish wouldn't be TG dinner without it. I notice it's one of the first things to go to the plates. I will miss it this year, cooking for 1 and just too much left over. However I will have a lg scoop of low sodium beans

Keeping with a bacon theme, I crisp up a bunch of fresh bacon bits, saute some onion and simmer my fresh green beans in that.
