I don't really care for machine formed patties, something about the texture or density bothers me. .....
That 'texture' is because Walmart and MANY other stores add LFTB (I.E. pink slime) to ground meat products. Since the expose I think we all know all to well what that stuff is now.
Here's Walmart's promise that maybe/soon when they can get the countries they buy meat from to comply, they will stop adding it! :B
Walmart Statement:
"“As a result of customer and member feedback, Walmart and Sam’s Club will begin offering fresh ground beef that does not contain lean finely textured beef (LFTB).
We are working aggressively with our suppliers to have new offerings in our stores and clubs as quickly as possible.
As these products become available, associates in our meat department and at our customer service desks will share updates with customers who inquire.
While the USDA and experts agree that beef containing LFTB is safe and nutritious, we are committed to listening to our customers and providing the quality products they want at prices they can afford.”"walmart Source: Argentine Beef Packers S.A.
Has anyone found packages of beef that says NO LFTB added?
Thankfully I have been able to find local butchers, local green markets at almost every area I have traveled to and usually in close proximity to the CG I was staying at.
I thought it was maybe because the patties are stamped out by machine and maybe compressed in the process. Idk...... I grind my own beef anyway when we are having it so I'm not as familiar with the store or manufacturer processing.
Re the red color, we raised our own beef when I was a kid and the whole family would go to the butcher on packing day and wrap and label the meat. It was never the pinkish color you see in the grocery store. More a liver/blood red color.
Once you've eaten good home grown beef I bet it must be hard for you to stomach the stuff that's in stores now a days! :C
Well we sure did appreciate it because we did all the work. And even though we were kids we knew not to make friends with the calf. We knew he was going on the table. Our schoolmates used to make fun of us because the calf was often on the front lawn where we had very lush grass. My mom used to tie him to a boat anchor and move him from spot to spot during the day. Grass fed plus no lawn to mow for us. I guess we were ahead of the "green" curve.
