So where does one find these "local" markets?
For anyone traveling through Pennsylvania via I-99, take Exit 52 at Bald Eagle and go east down the valley a few miles to Reese's. I'm 70 now and for as long as I can remember, Reese's Sale Barn, grocery and meat market has been there. Stepping into that store is like entering a local Clover Farm Store of the fifties.
Every year, I order 25lbs. of their country sausage in natural casings and can it. There's nothing like that flavor! Jimmy Dean, eat your heart out! Like all of their meat, the pork in that sausage is locally raised, and they offer a plethora of cuts of beef, chicken, or whatever you have a hankerin' for.
Of course, I have to pick up some homemade dry bologna to munch on the way home -- and a rawhide hogs ear for the neighbor's dog.
