Microwaving apples?

Does anyone know if you can microwave an apple like making a baked apple?
  • I have also done this with pears. Great for breakfast with a bowl of oatmeal. Everything can be done in less than 10 minutes. If you like things a little spicier, I have used a couple of red hots to add some snap to the fruit.

If you are worried about the sugar, they sort of make a syrup out of their own juices. I like to top mine with a little skim milk and eat it.

I core mine, peel just the top third of the peeling off, stuff it with raisins or cranberries, and some broken walnuts, maybe a little browned old fashion dry oats, and sprinkle with a little cinnamon. Could top with a little pat of butter, but if it is a diet treat, might be good to pass on that.

Cover it when you microwave it, so the steam will help make the syrup.

That is far too descriptive to be legal! Now I have to print this out and put it on DW's grocery list :B
  • craftyfox, "luck" and my name aren't typically used in the same sentence unless the word "bad" is also found in that sentence.
  • I got a microwave apple cooker at a garage sale for .50. It's 2 plastic shaped apples that you put your cored apple, raisins and brown sugar in, small amount of water and cook about 3 min in the microwave. Even DH can make them. I also have an onion cooker that will do the same thing..can use either onions or apples. You could probably find either at a kitchen equit. store..maybe even a Dollar Tree store or if you are lucky like me, a garage sale!
