Good research! I bet the OP was one of those smart kids in school!
I have a NuWave portable induction cooktop. I also pondered using it a way to maintain a consistent temperature, for a given length of time. I would believe that a heavy, covered cooking vessel, (cast iron, for instance :)) would be able to hold the heat for a nice long time. Then, maybe the NuWave could be turned down, or off. Also, I have to wonder if the NuWave is able to be used for hours at a time, as I don't believe that was it's original purpose.
I don't have a lot of luck with slow cookers, even though I've had several-they always seem to run too 'hot'.
