PK Portable Kitchen

PK Portable Kitchen

Have been looking for a quality, charcoal grill at a reasonable price. This is a cast aluminum grill/smoker. They were made back in the fifties and then the company closed up. Somebody decided that they were too good to disappear, and he started making them from Arkansas. I bought one, we'll see how it does! They have a facebook page and some YouTube videos.

  • Oops,I didn't realize it was charcoal, not at all like the Holland in that respect.
  • Bought mine in 1962 for $8. I use it for my home grilling and some smoking - makes a nice smoked ham. (I still use my dedicated smoker for large quantities.)

Forgot to mention: on windy and cold days, I can put my dutch ovens in it for baking. Just remove the shelf and set the d.o. on the floor of the cooker.
  • I have enjoyed reading all the comments about the PK grill. I think I will really like it. I am happy to spend a reasonable amount of money for a portable smoker AND grill, that should excel at the job, last forever and is made in America. Plus, it's probably as close to owning an Airstream, as I will get!
  • Go Dogs - congrats on your new grill - we purchased one in the early 60's, if I remember correctly, only had to replace the chrome grill a couple of times due to almost weekly use over 20+ years. At one time they also make a gas version, and we still have one at the farm (converted to charcoal, as the cooking gods intended). Only retired it when we acquired a 22-inch Weber (needed more surface area and ability to smoke larger/bigger items, ie turkey and butts). The PK was given to a friend, who still has it in use at their lake cabin. If you don't already have one, get a charcoal chimney and enjoy !
  • Seems like it cooks a lot like the Holland grill and the camping version, the Companion. We always take or Companion with us. I think you will find it very versatile.

It is not the best grill to sear your meat, but it cooks it very juicy and delicious. I do biscuits, and pies and eggs, etc. in mine. Roasted chicken looks like a picture and tastes super moist. Pizzas are no problem, nor is a pan of lasagna, or other baked pasta. Pre made casseroles taste even better at the campsite.

We always do our Thanksgiving turkey in the large one at home.

    Go Dogs,
That grill looks like an awesome set up. As to the price, I think that's around the price range I paid for my Weber Q and Weber Rolling Cart. Quality products aren't cheap.
  • If you shop around, you can do a lot better on price. I ordered it for $269 with free S&H. I know it probably still sounds too high for some, but PK owner's will put their grill/smoker against any Weber or Egg.
  • I have never heard of them, but I do appreciate things that are made here in the USA. I am a Weber guy myself as they are made here too. The price is definitley on the high side. Please keep us posted about how you like it.
  • For that price, they should put it together, deliver it and cook the food for you. No thanks, but their are much cheaper grills available that will do just as good or better. I do not understand where some companies come up with their pricing structure.:h
  • I used to have the old original "Club Aluminum Grill / Smoker" and wish I still did. It worked great and was nearly indestructible. Looked just like the PK. Thanks for reminding me (I saw one a while back but just forgot it). I think I will order one ASAP. $299.00 sounds like a lot, but it isn't really for what you get. I think my old one was about $99.00 back in the 1970's.
