Have any of you folks found a good one? I currently have an Aroma, but it is only 900 watts and that's pretty wimpy. It's hottest temperature is about like a medium-low on a residential stove.Amazon reviews are focused on using hotplates for small teakettles, etc. I bought an 1100 watt Imusa recommended on Amazon, but once it arrived I could see that it was too unstable to use a large pot on. My dream hotplate would be 1500 watts, lightweight, and as un-tippy as the Aroma. Any suggestions?

I haven't found any with an acceptable power level either. I suspect it's a safety issue.Induction cooktops operate at that power but they're not as efficient at heating.

Residential is 240 volts and plenty of amps. Portable will never match it.I have a vintage 1950s version with an exposed coil in a ceramic plate and metal case. Doubt it is even 900w but it seems to work as needed.

Please, let's not get hung up on exact power level. There are lots of hotplates on the market that are 1100 or 1200 watts. Have you folks found one that you like?

How about a flat griddle. Presto makes nice ones. Of course, they are not very good for putting a pot of water on them to heat, but great from fixing steaks and pan-cakes and egges and fried potatoes and ......

What I use it for mainly is cooking large pots of stew. When at a place with power, I like to cook a lot of something, and eat it for several days.

Well that sucks, sorry for that. I did see some 1100-1200 and a 1300w but I guess it depends on if it's true or not. I used a Killawatt to test mine, with both burners on it pulls 1500w.

Unfortunately, I started reading the reviews on that hot plate and it turns out it is advertising falsely, and is actually 900 watts. Some people's kids!

It has to be how hot they are allowed to go somehow. Our Elite two burner has a 470w smaller burner and a 1040w larger burner. We rarely have to use the bigger burner as long as we put a pan on the little one while we get the food ready. The big burner has no problem getting a big pot going and the little one can keep it going.

I did notice when I was looking for a single burner that many were in the 750w range. I know higher exist. I looked at Amazon and found a few 1500w single burners.

Nuvi has automatic shutoff,timed shutoff, cleans easily.

I have an option on mine to set a cut off time - I simply set it to go off after how ever many hours I need it to be on. I click on "Time", hit the button it moves to a different unit. first is for minutes, then 10's of minutes, then hours. Can put up to 19 hours on before it shuts off. For a slow cooker, usually set the temp at 225 or 250. Never had a problem.

Not 2Retired but have observed that some induction burners have no automatic cut off timers.

We have worn out one Nuvi induction cooker. I replaced it because having two is great. I would never use a hot plate due to safety alone. An induction cooker will not catch anything nearby on fire.

We never found an electric one that had enough power either. We ended up using a propane stove and it works out great!
