Which stove to buy?

If you were going to replace your RV stove, which one would you buy, Suburban or Attwood. My DW wants a gas oven and we currently have a cooktop. I think either manufacturer's stove will perform just fine with the top burners, but it is the oven performance that is most important. So, what do y'all think? Which is the best?
And, after replacing the cooktop with a full stove, I'll have a cooktop for sale, if anyone is interested!

  • Ours is a Magic Chef. Works well, with pizza stone in the lower oven.
  • I bake everything in our convection oven and no one can tell that it is not baked in a conventional oven. Wonder what she finds unsatisfactory?

IMHO I do not believe you will find enough difference between the two brands to be worried about. Capacity is minimal in both, but both can also be made to work satisfactory IF you add a pizza stone or unglazed floor tiles to the oven. We have a pizza stone and our oven works just fine. We cook all sorts of things in it, from cinnamon rolls to meat loaf and as long as you pay attention to the cooking times and temps it is nearly as good as home.

    Yup, there's your answer.
  • Flip a coin as both brands indicated don't have much advantage over the other. Neither brand will perform like your home oven, but as
Donn stated, using a pizza stone or unglazed tile enhances overall performance. We rarely use our RV oven as we also have a convection microwave combo oven and it delivers outstanding results once we figured out how to use it.
  • Thanks for the replies, y'all. We've got the microwave/convection oven, but she is not happy with the performance of it. We also have a portable electric oven and that's OK for some light outdoor cooking, like frozen Texas toast, but you cannot bake a cake in it. Like Donn said, I need to know about a gas stove with oven. Remember, a happy wife is a happy life! :B

  • Hi YFM--agree with previous posts about performance of RV ovens. We have full-timed for the past 19 years in seven different rigs. Having had many different models of RV ovens, let me say that I find them all lacking. If I were you, I would look in to a stand-alone electric oven or consider using a microwave-convection oven. Both take some getting used to, but the end result will be better.

    Hi,

Since there is currently no oven, I'd be tempted to use one of the stand alone electric units that plug into 120 volt power.

Agreed I don't believe there is a significant difference in the capability in the various brands of built in models.

  • I've heard that the Atwoods are more adjustable thus reducing loss of propane on too high a flame, etc. I don't know it there is anything to this, but I've heard it from several TT dealers.

I also think that Atwood has about 80% of the market share in the cooktop/oven area!
