We have a friend who did all the research and built a wood fired pizza oven. Turns out he only uses it once a year. Everyone's different but for us, once a year isn't worth the price. Merrykalia's method seems more practical and less expensive.

We make wood-fired pizza on the grate of our fire pit when we camp. We lay a fire in midafternoon, let it burn for an hour or two, place some tiles on the grate and allow to get hot (about 10 minutes). Place homemade pizza on there and cover it with our BBQ grill lid. The lid is much too large, but it funnels some of the smoke onto the pizza and gives it a wonderful smoky flavor. Cook for about 10 minutes or until crust is done and cheese is melted on top.
