Wood fired pizza oven

I just purchased a Ooni Fyra wood pellet fired oven. Just wondering if anyone else has similar on the RV?

Thanks,
  • That would be fun to try out but all camping wood fires are banned in California, or will be soon.
  • Seen a couple out in the sand dunes. Pizzas come out looking great.
  • If the grands are craving pizza we'll make some in a cast iron skillet on the campfire. We already have the skillet and aluminum foil. You can see the method in this video.

  • Nice pizza video!! Was thinking 15-20 mins at that heat is gonna burn the bottom. Might be better to set the dough down on the hot pan. Give it a couple mins. Then flip it over and get toppings on super fast and cover. Ive made a lot of pizza on different surfaces and sometimes its hard to cook the dough all the way through before one side starts to burn. I think most charcoal grill pizzas use this method. Precook one side and try to be light on the toppings.

Ive been making a lot of flatbread pizzas lately. Love that soft fresh bread!! Not as good as pizza dough but much quicker and easier.

I think if the vid cook had raised the pan off the fire more it wouldn’t have burned. Sometimes we do one in a Dutch oven with coals on the lid and bottom using the baking ratio.
  • Yeah or start the process not too hot. If the cast iron is 450+ the dough only needs minutes. Neapolitan style.

Ever see the alton brown pancake episode? He uses water drops to determine the griddle temp. Around 350f water will bubble and shake around.

I use that method all the time to check pan temp. If the water doesnt bubble you're under 350. If the water goes insane you're well above 350f.

Fires are still allowed in campgrounds at existing fire rings and in grill/bbqs that sit off the ground. Backcountry fire permits have all been canceled.

These ovens are great and fix the issues found when trying to cook pizza on the grill, the problem of getting enough top heat (hence the flipping trick).

Let us know how you like it. I've been wanting one of these.
  • Onni oven working great. Made 7 pizza so far, each one better then the last.

Oven deck reaches up to 1000oF, pizza done in one to two minutes.
