East Coast Family Camping Suggestions

Looking for nice locations on the east coast (NY, MI,PA,OH, WV, VA) for a week long family camping trip.
  • In Upstate NY Lake George Rv Resort. Lots of fun on the Schroon river and they shuttle you into town.Lots of stuff for kids and adults.

In Va we have stayed at Toms Cove, but depending on the site it can be very tight! This is located on Chincotegue near Assategue NP and the outer beaches. Better for kids another hour south on 13 is Cherrystone CG. Its the destination kids activities planned all day as well as adults. This by far is our favorite CG when we travelled with our daughter. You wont be disappointed.

Both great choices it just depends on which way you turn the steering wheel. Happy Trails!
  • Assuming Maryland meets your criteria... east coast north of Virginia... I highly recommend Assateague island State Park. Right on the beach with the wild ponies, Very few electric sites, but a nice steady breeze let us survive August without air-conditioning. Generators are allowed..and plenty of clean bathrooms with good showers
  • Hi Kjyoung24, this is oilcan4. head to Washington,dc area. stay at Cherryhill C.G. in collegepark ,md. very close to metro and bus from cg takes you yo metro. then go 95south to 64 east to Williamburg,Va numerous cgs in area. continue east to Virginiabeach area, try Travelpark Virginia beach real nice place. from there you could go north over chesapeak bay bridge tunnel to Cherrystone cg on chesaoeak bay, then continue north to Chincoteague Island at Toms Cove cg.Check their web site for Pony Penning swim in july 2017. its where the book Misty took place about the lost pony. have to see it once in a lifetime. from Virginia Beach you could head south to the Outer banks and cape hatteras area. hope this helps, enjoy the roadtrip. post if you want new England info as theres nice places up north in warmer months.
  • More info would help. What activities does your family enjoy? When are you going? What type of campground do you prefer?
  • I guess saying east 'coast' was not the best description of the area I'm thinking. I guess I just meant eastern US, with interest in PA, NY, MI, OH, WV, VA. No further north than NY and no further south than VA. Sorry for confusing everyone.
  • You will get much better responses if you change your title
East coast includes Carolinas and Florida but those areas are really not what your looking for.
  • Do a Google search for `_______ tourism' and put the city, state or area in the blank space and read what the specialists recommend.
  • :h Ohio and especially Michigan are nowhere near the east coast, and even though they're closer, Pennsylvania and West Virginia don't touch the ocean. :?

Anyhow, there are many, many options in the states you list. I'm somewhat partial to parts of upstate New York; Letchworth and Watkins Glen state parks for example, could make a fabulous week's vacation. I might also include a stop at Knoebels (in Elysburg, Pennsylvania).

Philly has plenty to see and do for several weeks. About a month ago I spent a wonderful week staying at Greenbelt NP (in Greenbelt, MD) and touring Washington, DC.

The Henry Ford (near Detroit) is worth at least two or three days.
