I take several (6-10) teenagers camping every year for a Sunday School outing and I make it an adventure. They must cook and clean up ANYTHING that they eat!!
We make Cajun Chicken Stew over the fire, we do Manwich sandwiches in pie irons over the fire, a full breakfast (eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy one morning, pancakes, bacon the second), sandwiches and chips for lunch while hiking.
I ask them to bring their own drinks and a large bag of chips they like. We put the in the cooler outside and I bring bottled water to add in.
Cajun Chicken Stew: celery, carrots, onions, mushrooms - cut into bite size pieces and put into a large pot, cooked until tender. Add 6 potatoes that have been cut into small cubes (small cook quicker), add a can of chicken broth. When potatoes are just done, add Andouille sausage, sliced and chicken breast, cubed. Cook until almost done. Add a can of cream of mushroom and a can of cream of chicken. Add some Cajun seasoning to your taste. Continue cooking for 10-15 minutes. Serve with some cheddar cheese on top.
Many, if not most of the teens, have never had to cook, nor clean up and it is a good and fun experience for them.
MANWICH pie irons
Before leaving home, make manwich meat, using the canned stuff and then refrigerate. When you get to camp, use white bread and cheese to make sandwiches in the pie iron. Spray the pie iron, place a slice of bread in the iron, add a spoonful of manwich meat, some cheese and any other item wanted, cover with another slice of bread and close iron. Roast over the fire, making sure to turn well while cooking.
These are my suggestions. They are not expensive to make and feed lots of hungry teens (both male and female).
Have fun with them - they will be grown and gone in no time.
