Well that was an interesting weekend

We wanted to get a trip in before kid #2 went off to college in August so we found the last open campsite in a Michigan state park for this past weekend.

Site was listed as "accommodates up to a 45' vehicle," the only way that would happen was if it was stood on end. Took some doing, but finally got on the site. BTW, while we were finessing our way onto the site, we were blocking the one-way road into the campground so we had about 15 spectators watching us. No pressure!

The site was not as smooth as a billiard table. I used all of my lego blocks and about 47 pieces of wood to level the camper. I was hurrying to unblock the road so I didn't triple check my chocks. One slipped as I unhitched, so the TT shifted, putting a nice 15° bend in the tongue jack's tube and shoving the end into the ground about 8".

I let the traffic by and found a nearby Harbor Freight to pick up a farm jack to lift the tongue so I could re-hitch, re-level, and re-chock. 3 hours total to set up. A new world record for slowness!

Everything seemed to be going well the next day with the exception of our frequently bickering neighbors. By dark, we were sitting around our campfire becoming more and more uncomfortable as the yelling, swearing, etc. rose in volume next door. When Mr. shoved Mrs., we called the rangers, who then called the state police.

They were hauled off for being drunk in a dry state park and for their general nastiness with the police and rangers. All done by 1 a.m.!

Sunday morning I trotted back to Harbor Freight for a manual tongue jack so I could remove the bent jack and temporarily put the crank model on. This went too smoothly to believe.

I then went inside to run the slide in. Pushed the button and nothing happened. My trusty Schwintek Super Slide was dead. Checked the control box and it said I had a short on motor #2. Disconnected power and unplugged/plugged all the connections into the control box. Connected to power and Voila! The slide was back to life. Looks like one of the board games we had in the cupboard knocked one of the connections loose.

We left the campground and hopped on the freeway. GPS showed a 45 minute delay on a normally 50 minute trip. Turns out someone flipped their TT, closing the freeway. Putting it into perspective, I preferred my problems to the ones the guy with the wrecked TT now had.
