Andy has a mass in his liver. He is not eating and is very lethargic, with pale gums and an overall depressed demeanor. My vet could feel the enlarged liver when she palpitated his abdomen. He also has a heart murmur. He was given a B12 shot today and I was told how to prepare a home cooked diet so his appetite would be better. But I was also told that he may not last longer than a month, perhaps longer, most likely sooner. I really expected to have Andy more than the 4 1/2 years I have since I adopted him. All I can say now is that I will do what I can to make him comfortable in his last days with us, and I wish someone would find a cure for cancer.Rita

So sad. We lost our sweet Haylie to cancer. I found out today that our Miss Abby has to see a cardiologist (she's collapsed twice). All we can do is love our beautiful pups and make them as comfortable as possible and let them know how much we love them. Agnes

It is a sad thing to lose a member of the family (and they are members too)Hopefully you can make him comfortable in his last days. Just remember he has had a good life since you adopted him.

Sorry to hear about Andy. I've had to say good-bye to two of my children because of cancer, and it was much further progressed by the time we saw enough changes in behavior to look for cancer. Make his time special.I do know there have been advances in treating cancer in pets, but a lot depends on how early it is detected, what kind, etc.

Rita, I'm so sorry you're going through this. We know all to well what this is like having lost Jill just a couple of weeks ago because of tumors in her liver and spleen. Just give him hugs for as long as you have him.Doug

After his B12 shot yesterday he seems more alert and a little brighter. He's eating better, and the vet gave me a sample of KD kibble for him as he is also showing signs of early kidney disease from the blood test results. Out of 27 tests, 16 were normal range. So Andy will go back for another B12 shot next Monday. I read an article on the Internet that B12 is usually given in a series of 6 shots over 6 weeks. The vet thinks it might make a difference to him and could possibly improve and/or extend his remaining life time.
Thanks so much for all your good thoughts and wishes, and Andy thanks you too. And thank God Nicky the horse is doing well - I'd hate to have a bill from an equine vet!

Cancer sucks.

We lost our beloved lab, Hershey, to cancer.
As was said above, give Andy lots and lots of love! Our time with them is too short. Thoughts and prayers!

So sorry about Andy. His last years have been filled with love and good food and all he ever wanted. He isn't alone either. He has all he needs. Thank you for rescuing. God bless all rescuers. We are praying for Andy and you.

So sorry! One thing that we do when one of ours is on the last leg is to get him a new (and young) friend. Not to make things easier for us, but it seems to give our darling a little 'jump start'-being around a friend who wants to play and be friends. It may make the last days more enjoyable for Andy, and make him feel a little better about moving on.

I'm so sorry to hear about Andy. As you already know just shower him with love which I'm sure you already do. We never have enough time with our fur children. I know exactly what your going through.
