Andy's mast cell surgery - delayed again
Andy's been on Soloxine for his thyroid and Denamarin for his liver for the past month, and I took him for a recheck to see if the levels had improved enough for him to have the surgery for his small mast cell tumor. They have improved somewhat, but not enough for my vet to feel comfortable about doing the surgery. He is also on Royal Canin Hepatic diet, and Benadryl to keep the tumor in check - it hasn't gotten larger, in fact, it seems to have gotten smaller. So his Soloxine dosage was increased and I will have to have another blood test for him next month. If everything checks out ok, I won't have him have the surgery until after the holidays. Meanwhile, he's his usual self - a great appetite and no symptoms of being in pain or discomfort. I'm still concerned about the tumor but my vet thinks the more important thing now is to get the thyroid and liver levels more normal. So we're back to waiting again. But I'm glad this does not seem like an emergency to my vet, and that the surgery can be postponed until after the holidays. The things we go through for our pets! But it's all worth it!
