I, too, watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and most were just plain stupid. The WeatherTech commercial was very moving but it made me think about how so many pet owners cannot possibly afford this type of treatment.
I had a Collie Strider that went through the protocol for treating Lymphoma. At the time there was less then a 3 percent chance of full recovery. The end cost for my local vet and K-State was around 6k. In the end it extended his life 8 month's.
I hope that advancements will be made and the cost will come down. You have to start somewhere. I did not have a spare 6k but made sacrifices in other areas to make it work. (In fact while I was at K-State I found out the company I worked for was sold and I no longer had a job).
Last year Cooper came down with very aggressive oral cancer after discussing with my vet the decision was made to make him cofortable as possible until his passing.
Without people trying there would be no advancements in medicine.
In fact I documented Strider's treatment from beginning to end on this pet forum in the hope it would help others understand. It was lost to time passing.
