- AZPopsExplorerThanks everyone! Jerry, I kept Calvin quiet (as in no running or playing ball) for about a month or so. This was due to his limping on both of his front legs.
He's been doing fine since. He's been taking SAM-e and Milk Thistle for his liver, for awhile now, and the Proviable-DC really is helping with his movements.
Pops - dturmModeratorCoccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever)
Dogs seem to be prone to picking up spores because of their behavior, sniffing the ground. Desert southwest is the prime area, but there have been cases a little beyond the strict geographic area (but not too far out). Not all dogs (or people) exposed to the spores get sick, fortunately.
Glad to hear that Calvin is doing well.
Doug, DVM - dspencerExplorerThat's great to hear about the boy Pops. Glad your both okay.
- rockhillmanorExplorer IIAlbeit for humans I found the Mayo Clinic has the best description of what Valley Fever is and it's symptoms.

The reason I choose not to go west with the dogs. - colliehaulerExplorer IIIIs Valley Fever in Northern CA as well? Hope Calvin is doing better.
What winter area's are affected by Valley Fever? - Jerrybo66ExplorerPops
Were you warned to keep him quiet, no play, no walks or exercise? Our Rottie, Lady, had v/f pretty bad and I kept her mostly in the house. She also got stomach problems, I think gas, so I drove her to the grassy park to let her just mosey around at her choosing between rest stops. . I thought she needed to move around a bit to help digestion. Not strictly walking. Two or three days later we lost her. Her lungs bled to the point she starved out of oxygen. I feel it was my fault. Maybe Calvin doesn't have it as bad but I just want to mention what I learned the hard way. My Vet said some dogs get over it in three or four months and some take a year. It's some nasty stuff that comes on quietly. Buddy had a trace that disappeared in a month or so treatment and the Pit was free. I didn't believe the first test because he had a slight cough once in a while so I had him retested in case the lab made a mistake. He's ok..
Sam-e is a good for the liver. He's been on it for about eight years. No joint trouble either. . I know Calvin is in good hands.. He'll be fine..
Jerry - Nutinelse2doExplorerGlad to hear all is well with you two, and hope you are able to get away from the upcoming heat wave.
Take care of eachother!
Cheryl - AZPopsExplorerThanks fur checking up on us, but nope, not turning tricks, .... yet! .... :B
Calvin's doing much better with his Valley Fever. His last blood work to measure his titer count showed that it was reduced by half.
However, thank goodness the "Man Upstairs" been helping his liver deal with the Fluconazole. His blood work showed that his liver is stable, as it looks like he's gonna be on the Fluconazole for quite some time. It's possible, that he'll be on it for the rest of his life.
We've been pretty much dong the same thing. I will be amping up my efforts on getting us back on dirt.
Pops - dspencerExplorerPops are you turning tricks on the side??:B
