Just spoke to the people at Kimg Canyon & they be sickly told me they are NOT dog friendly.
Dogs are not allowed on any trails & I was told dog are only allowed in the camp ground & inside the car & no where else!
So I won't be visiting there. :(
That's interesting, we have been to Kings Canyon several times and have always taken our dog. See lots of dogs in the campgrounds.
They are not allowed on the trails and you will find that most State and National Parks will not allow dogs on the trails.
Kings Canyon is one of my favorite places.
So tell me what you can do while there with your dog?
I don't know if it's the time of year I'm going but the guy was very clear, the Only place dogs are allowed are in the camp grounds & in yOur car period!
We are older and don't do a lot of hiking, if we do we are gone for maybe an hour or two and the dog usually stays in the car. (we usually go in the spring so the weather is cool.).
As far as things to do with the dog, the campgrounds have lots of open space and roads and we walk several times a day just within the campground.
Most of Kings Canyon will probably be closed to traffic in the winter. We usually go over Memorial Weekend and some of the campgrounds are just starting to open up.
This is a picture of the road coming out of the Canyon in 2011 Memorial weekend, got out just before they required chains.
