I also agree with sher9570 and CA POPPY. Kissie enjoys walks on the beach (off season) - actually runs to the point whichever of us has a hold of her leash gets a real work out, comes in the kitchen when she smells chicken or cherrios!! I have a 3 yr old grandson that drops "fishies' EVERYWHERE and Kissie is right beside him waiting for them to drop!!
One thing we have done is buy a dog stroller. When we are traveling, we do take our 2 small dogs with us to various places. Kissie doesn't do well in congested areas due to bumping into things. Since you have a pom this might work for you.
We also have about 8 exercise pens clip together that go from our screen porch to a small portion of the backyard for them to do their business. Our backyard is to large for her to roam because she gets confused where she is. Even with a small area she sometimes has a hard time getting back to the porch so I'll tell her to follow my voice and she does.
I will say it does break my and DH hearts on the days that she is really confused. But it doesn't seem to bother her.
