dog kennels near hersheypark, pa

We are considering going to PA this summer. Hopefully staying at a state park (prefer state parks over staying in the city), visiting Gettysburg one day and going to Hersheypark another day.

We have 2 dogs and anticipate being gone all day at the park. Does anyone have any suggestions for boarding for the day? Hersheypark has boarding on site but it's first come first serve. Has anyone used this? I'm wondering if they're outside kennels b/c my dogs are a rottweiler and a mastiff and they don't do well in hot temps.

Or can anyone recommend a kennel just for the day? I found a few in the yellow pages but the latest they are open for pick up is 6. We were hoping to be more flexible.

Thanks

We stay at Highmeadow every year near the 4th of July. We leave my (crazy, sensitive, hates to be alone) weim in our camper with the air running. Because it's so close, one of us stays at the park with the kids, and one goes back every 4-5 hours and walks him, feeds him etc via the shuttle. Shuttle is free and about a 15-20 minute trip start to finish (waiting for the bus, loading, unloading etc). Sometimes we have free parking passes, and in that case, we might opt to use the truck to go back and forth, but generally the shuttle is easier.

We did consider staying at the park right there and coming back for a meal and to let the dogs out. I'm just not sure about staying in the park. Don't really feel like staying in the city and was looking for a more country setting; although it might be easiest to use this park just for the dogs.

  • PA lists their kennel inspection reports on line.
    Reports

Hershey is in Dauphin County. Just select the county and the search button, and a list will pop up with all the kennels in that county.
Once you see a kennel you are considering, you can go to the right and click on the kennel inspection report and see if there have been problems at that kennel.

You do have to allow a pop up for this page.
  • I will say that it is worth the time and money staying at High Meadows campground right outside of Hershey. You can go early, the shuttle is wonderful (not sure about animals on there), you can purchase tickets at a savings.
