Our Boder Collie Mix (70#) started having rear hip issues when she was 10
Prior to that she could leap thru an open truck window
She needed help getting into truck and commerically available ramps were to wide for the Quad Cab rear door so I built one and carpeted it.
Lay it down on door sill and walked her towards it...she tried to jump over it, pulled away from it, wasn't having anything to do with it.
Laid it flat on ground and using leash had her walk on it from one end then turn around and walk back on it.
She didn't like walking on it at first...
After a few flat exposures she would go up/down it in the truck guided with a leash.
Few more of those and then ramp was hers.
She used it until she was 14 1/2.
We now have a smaller Border Collie Mix (35#) rescue that is 6-8 yrs old
Truck floor is too high for her to jump in/out.
She's not liking the ramp----yet
Right now I pick her up and put her in/out of back seat.
Will need to leash walk her on the ramp laying flat BUT right now letting her get more settled in.
Lots of changes already.
300 mile truck ride from rescue center to our home
Vet well check next day.......thermometer Yikes, poking/prodding, toe nails clipped
Groomers 2 days later.....old matted coat cut off, wash/dry
New house, new yard, new smells
Ramp can wait...for now.
Glad to hear that meds have helped.
They did for a few years with our ole girl, then one day she could barely get up from laying position.......then from a sitting position.
Within a month she was falling down when walking and then couldn't hold herself up to go any more.
It gets tough when they start degrading
Might try just walking on ramp laying flat for a while------best of luck
