I used to wonder about this as the leap from ground level to the seat in our Avalanche is ~ 3' so although our bud hasn't had any difficulty prior to this I have wondered sometimes if it's just too much stress on his joints and am now kicking myself for not having addressed this issue earlier. Now that he has shown signs of difficulty I do have to find some sort of solution and although he seems to manage with the box I've chosen I think I should take a look at some sort of folding dog steps I can store in the back of the truck. Unfortunately most are sold by US vendors so getting one here to Ontario would be prohibitively costly but I did find this 20" high dog step available here in Canada from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for a not unreasonable cost. He doesn't mind the stairs in the house but I'm just not sure he'd accept these steps as easily.
