When my hubby is home, he does everything for her because it was his choice to get a puppy. (I wanted to rescue an adult dog but that's another story. :) ) She still prefers me most of the time as does our adult dog. In fact, we saw her this weekend for the first time in three weeks as she has been away for obedience training. She came running to me first. ;) I think she prefers me because she is much more eager to please me than him or simply because I am a woman.

We are very much looking forward to her first camping trip. Still not sure how we are going to keep her confined to our lot. May have to try a few different things to see what works best.

chezmoose - Thank you for responding. That's what I was thinking but I know our older dog would have a fit if the roles were reversed. One of the reasons she is so easy at our campsite is that she is glued to me. I can't go anywhere without her. I'm hoping our pup will be like that with my hubby. ;) The pup is away at obedience training right now (we get our training this weekend) so that should help. Just going to have to exercise her so she is tired.

I don't think it should be an issue. It's really no different than giving an older child different privileges than a younger one. Just make sure the pup has plenty of toys, kongs, and attention to keep her from acting up. Boredom is what gets dogs into trouble. They are not vengeful creatures.

We have a Boxer & a Boxer Mix & we use a retractable type leash when we sit outside with them & bought a large carabeaner to attach the handles to our chair or the camper. (Got one in the baby dept at Target go figure) Also I recommend harnesses instead of just collars.

She stays glued to me, ignores anyone passing by our site, etc. We have a new pup and are going to have to figure out some sort of restraint system for her. We have an ex-pen for our cockers. I put a small patio mat down, set up the ex-pen and they each have one of the K&H folding cots.

I like to put the mat down first - keeps the dogs cleaner.

We have a small canopy to put up to shade them, but you can do the same thing with a tarp on sunny days.

Also please be careful where you attach the lead on the RV.

We were hosting at a state park and enjoying our morning coffee when we heard a loud crash, and someone calling a dog.

Running over to the site we found the owner holding his Great Dane that he had tied to the awing arm. The dog saw a squirrel and took off after it. The awning arm didn't stop him! The awning arm ripped off the RV and the whole awning also twisted in the general direction of the squirrel.

As we helped the camper clean up, at least, he wasn't mad at the dog. He just kept muttering "Dumb dog."

I could not help but think who tied him to the awning arm in the first place?

When sitting outside we keep ours on the leash. Our big one lays by me and the small one lays by my wife. They don't bark or chase but really enjoy watching folks and dogs walk by.
