I put mine about 7' never had a problem.

At first, I kept my dog (80lb) on a leash next to me, but at one stop, she saw a dog, took off and the brand new leash snapped. So now, I connect her to a 10' chain attached to the MH. She seems content, and I can relax.

Ours is a small dog so she is on her leash sitting beside us. She stays on the carpet unless she has permission to go elsewhere (unless she sees a squirrel that is). We are lucky to have adopted an already well trained dog.

Ditto. We also have a couple of folding dog beds from Camping World that are off the ground that we put in the x-pen for the dogs to rest on. To shade them from the sun (we camp mainly in GA and FL), we have the top section of a beach umbrella that I open and drape over one end of the x-pen that has their beds under it.

Our dogs are 19 & 23 pounds, 13 & 7 years old. We have found that no matter how we tie the leads, they manage tangle them around something in the campsite.

I have a 20' plastic covered 3/16 steel cable with a leash hook on one side, and a carabiner on the other to hook to whatever. The difference with this one is its 100% completely adjustable at any point using a small clothes line tensioner that fits this cable exactly.. The tensioner attaches to the Carabiner as well as the end of the cable, so the dog ain't getting away. The nice thing about the tensioner is the harder you pull on the cable, the harder it grabs. I should sell these.

We tie our dogs up under the step of the motorhome. We attach the leashes to a swivel. I always make sure the dogs are wearing their harnesses because of unforeseen accidents. Charlie saw a dog and of course he ran, did a flip in the air. Had to rush him to the Vets. Today he's paying for it with neck and back pain off and on.

We used 10 foot dog chains connected to the frame of our RV. This allowed the dogs to move into the sun or go under the RV for shade.

I would place their bowl of water at the end of the length of chain. This kept them from dragging the bowl with the chain.

Here's a tip with "new to" camping dogs.... Keep a couple of empty soda cans with some pebbles or pennies in them. Tape up the hole so the pebbles/pennies won't come out. If your dogs bark too much you can say their names, say no and then rattle the can each time they bark. Eventually you'll just have to reach for the can and they will stop barking.

Most RV parks have little tolerance for constantly barking dogs.

In parks with a 6 foot lead,"rule" the rangers tend to tolerate this if your dog is well behaved, and not barking at every passer by.

Same plan for us..we sometimes tie to the bumper, sometimes to our chairs, maybe the picnic bench...depends on what works best at the time and the campsite setup.
