We've used Frontline on our dogs for the last 10 years and never had a tick problem. A few months ago we had to have one of our Bouvs checked out at a vets in Georgia. It was time to get a new batch of Frontline for the dogs but the vet there convinced my wife that K9 Advantix was better and less expensive. Consequently she bought enough for 2 large dogs for 6 months.Fast forward 2 months and we had a massive tick infestation in one of our Bouvs. Daily we found ticks on him and on us. One of the ticks on hims was a fully engorged tick (1/2" wide). In total we discovered 3 or 4 live ticks that had been getting their dinner from him.We will be going back to Frontline as soon as we get back to civilization. We suspect that the Advantix washed off of him. We've never had that happen with Frontline.

Been using frontline since my dog was 4mo, ten years ago. Never a flee or tick problem. Tried a different topical once, poor dog was itching like mad from the treatment. Went back to frontline the next month.

I use Advantix on my dogs and have never had it not be effective. Unless you bathed the dog directly after application, it wouldn't have washed off.Did you check the expiration date on the carton - maybe it was old expired stock?Also, are you sure what you got was Advantix (fleas and ticks) and not Advantage (fleas only)? Maybe it got mixed up by the vet's office.

We did not bath the doge after applying the Advantix and the box has no date code. Both dogs have been receiving the same treatment this one had ticks, the other one did not. Who knows????

Weird. It could be that one dog was more "tasty" than the other, or maybe it was an application issue this go around with the one dog. I've always found Advantix to be effective. My Bat-dog is quite tasty to ticks and she will collect them while her brother Moose-dog is spotless. The Advantix has always kept the ticks off her. I had a problem with Frontline and fleas way back when it first came out - in those days, it didn't actually kill adult fleas, only made them infertile so they couldn't breed which didn't work if fleas were coming in from neighboring yards and pets - so I've never switched. I guess this just validates the argument "if it ain't broke don't fix it. Stick with what works for you. :)

THX toedtoes, we'll probably go back to Frontline when we run out of Advantix. I read the directions and it appears that my wife has not been applying it according to the instructions. She's been applying it all to one spot instead of four to six spots. That could be what the problem was. Strange that the other dog did not get any ticks. We're currently in northern MN and apparently they are having a big problem with ticks this year, we've had none so far, so maybe it's not going to be an issue.

We've used mostly Frontline on our Shepherd mix. Last year we tried Advantix a couple times, but both times within a minute after application he got nervous, panting and pacing for a couple hours. Doesn't have any problem with the Frontline.

Have found a few dead ticks on the floor. Occasional tick crawling on him after a walk. Only a couple actually attached to him - not sure how long they would have stuck on him before the Frontline would take effect - none have been at all engorged.

Have found more on myself than the dog this year.

Best thing currently on the market is NexGard avaiable from your vet. Chewable tablet that your furbaby will eat like a treat and with 45 minutes will star killing fleas very effective and lasts for 30 days with a single dose

Frontline Plus and Frontline Tritak don't work on our dogs in GA for fleas. Nextgard (a chewable) works well, but is pricy, as does the Soresto flea/tick collar (as long as the dog isn't excessively hairy). We give our little dogs Nextgard, but use the Soresto collar on our boxer (due to cost of Nextgard for him).

Don't use either of these if your dog is prone to seizures.

None of the above worked for our Chihuahuas. Especially the fleas, We do not worry much about the Chihuahuas getting ticks as they never leave the yard, however I have had Lyme Disease 5 times and we keep an extra eye on the watch dogs and my squirrel dog.
