We got this update yesterdayAVMA response to Okla. tornadoes
The AVMA has been following the reports of destruction and damage caused by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma. Our hearts go out to all affected by these storms. The AVMA has reached out to the Oklahoma State Veterinary Medical Association and is in communication with FEMA and our partners in the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition (NARSC) on ways to best assist in the response and recovery process. The AVMA's Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams are on standby to provide assistance with veterinary medical care if requested by the state of Oklahoma. We will post updates to the AVMA@Work blog as we learn more.
Thank you for sharing that info. :C
It's good to know that they are being taken care. I heard from friends that OK State Vet Med have already set up an area for the horses. - dturmModeratorFEMA and the AVMA have veterinary action teams that can be dispatched to these types of emergencies. Today an official said rescue was on the scene gathering pets and posting them on the internet to reunite them with their owners.
Good news about finding them. The search and rescue team is going thru each and every house and from what the mayor said they will repeat this process at least 2 more times. So any pets trapped WILL be found. I saw a news report this morning showing one of the National Guards carrying a dog away from a house they had just searched. - WandaLust2ExplorerI saw it live on TV. :*( It makes you wonder how many other pets are trapped in houses or other buildings. And this is kitten and puppy season. I hope some animal rescues can get there to help save the pets who will soon be wandering around bewildered, hungry and thirsty.
- UppercrustExplorerThat was awesome!
- Deb_and_Ed_MExplorer IIGlad I've got a box of Kleenex handy - that was so sad/happy! A little ray of sunshine in a horrible, HORRIBLE event....
- dspencerExplorerDang the video won't play for me. Don't know whats wrong, might be my computer.
- rockhillmanorExplorer III watched it 'live' on TV and it looked as if the dog was dead and that they were going to cut away asap, then the dog moved. Whew!
Had that lady not been interviewed the dog surely would have passed away not being able to move. - NCWriterExplorerThank you so much for posting this...I'm forwarding to my nephew's wife, whose dogs look just like this lucky puppy. Poor thing! So glad he got out alive (and of course his human, too.)
