New calming product for loud noises??

"Yay, it's the 4th of July weekend" (said in my best sarcastic voice). I'm lucky, Ben is just *scared* of fireworks - not terrified, doesn't destroy the house, etc; just sits on the couch and shivers. In the past, I've used a calming supplement called "Composure" - but I just read that there's an orally-applied "calming gel" called Sileo (only available from your Veterinarian) that somehow lessens their reaction to loud noises?

I've read a few comments from people with dogs who've not been helped by drugs or Thundershirts, and the results sound quite positive!

Hoping everyone has a calm Independence Day!

  • We have a little rescue Boston Terrier that is also terrified of fireworks. We got him a Thundershirt and it solved the problem. I know it won't work for everyone but it sure helped our little guy.
  • I usually spend the 4th at the seasonal site. When Bud was alive he was terrified of fireworks. Had some neighbors that had kids. When I told them about Bud they didn't set off a single firework near the camper. Good kids that cared about others, parents instilled good values.

I have found out if I explain why instead of just telling them not to do something I usually get a positive response.
  • I have come to dread Independance Day and the week prior & after. Just an excuse to play with explosives IMHO. I quizzed the neighborhood kids about the meaning of the holiday. They are clueless. My dog sits & shakes. Fire departments are on high alert as is the ER. And by the way you kids get off my lawn.
