New to camping with a dog your advice?

So last month we were at the pound, we drop of supplies when they need them.

So living behind the counter was a little pup. He was too small to go into the pens. You can figure the rest out. He came home with us.

He is great, he's 4 months old, 3 pounds and has already gotten through house and crate training. he even gets along with the cats.

We plan on taking him out on our memorial day trip. We're going to a COE campground and selected a spot back off the main roads where there won't be other rigs close by. We aren't going until after the weekend so it won't be real busy.

But this is our first trip with a dog, so what advice is out there?

So here he is Bruiser, you didn't think I would leave out a pic did you?

  • We took our pup on its first RV weekend when it was about three months old and it did just fine.

I recommend training it to sleep in a crate, at least at first. Expect whining in the beginning. If you let the pup train you to let it always sleep in bed with you, what do you do after it has been outside in the rain?

Keep some dog toys in the RV; one less thing to remember to load before a trip.

Work on leash training and take long walks. Have fun. That's about it

    Good advice. Very simple.

...and, I sure hope, "he gets along with the cats." At 3 pounds, he better....:)

  • The COE park will give you plenty of room....we use the one in Montgomery, Gunter Hill. I'm sure he'll make a fine camper and companion.
  • animals are nice but just my thoughts there in the way camping. others are afraid of them, and you gotta clean up there mess. you can,t take them every where so there locked up in a hot camper. not all camps will let them in. my daughter has labs easy going but I see people in my own drive way that won,t get out of there car, and these are all well trained ,never jump on you labs.
  • What a sweet little baby, I can see why he came home with you. :B

Other more qualified posters will jump in here with lots of good advice but my advice, follow the park rules, be considerate of your other campers, clean up after your baby, and enjoy him. Lots of hugs and kisses for him.......have fun.
