New total on pets taken camping!

Well this last weekend I had 5 Shih Tzu pups I've bottle- raised (5.5 weeks old) plus another Shih Tzu female PLUS my Toy Poodle. Whew! I'm glad it was only for overnight. The pups got LOTS of socializing because as soon as I put them in the X- pen kids & parents flocked around!!

Next weekend will be equally as interesting I'm sure!

  • We've taken <6 week old pups (3 different litters) on trips before. We did not allow outside dogs to interact with the pups. One trip I think we had 8 adult Border Collies plus a litter of 8 pups.

I might just be over protective but I never let my pups walk around on the ground other than just out my back door( and then that was only after their second set of vaccinations ) until they were fully vaccinated...I would be too afraid of them contracting something.JMHO

I know there are different opinions on this. My opinion is that the socialization & 'stress' of experiencing new sights, sounds, & people outweighs any germs they might encounter. Also the mom died 5 days after the pups were born so the DID get the benefit of moms antibodies and she was up to date on her vaccinations.
