Seresto vs. Scalibor flea/tick collars

Any thoughts on the above flea/tick collars on their effectiveness, safety, and whether or not they can be used with Revolution? The Revolution works great on everything but ticks and the dogs are only getting the ticks on their heads and ears. Deathly afraid of giving them too much for protection at once but also afraid of Lyme's etc. Comments appreciated.
  • if you compare a seresto with scalibor, i will go with seresto. as quality is much maintained and we should go with those belt which gives best comfort to your dogs while they are resting.
  • I'm currently using a Sorresto collar on one of my little dogs, and giving NexGuard to my other one, to see if there's a difference. Both dogs are flea and tick free. I give HeartGard Plus for Heartworm prevention. NexGard is more expensive for sure, and very convenient. It also eliminates the need for the dog to wear two collars, plus having to remove the Sorresto collar at bath time or when swimming. I would definitely not double dose with other methods of control with the same purpose.
  • We have Soresto collars on all three of our dogs and the reason I decided to try these was because I wasn't having a lot of luck with other products.

We started with them last September so all three are on their second collars.

    We still do heartguard.

We have not found any fleas or ticks since being on them... We are surrounded by woods up here in NY so ticks have always been a problem, fleas too but they were a year round problem also being in Florida in the winter.

They have shown no side effects even with the 9 lb 14 yr old Poodle.

I will continue to use them since they have been so effective.

If you choose to go with them, do not let your dogs swim with them or bathe with them, it does reduce the length of time they are effective.

Thanks. Dr. Doug. Are they safe to use with Revolution or should we just use the collars and a heartworm preventive?

And would they be contraindicated for a dog on a yearly injection to prevent heartworm?

  • Scalibor and Seresto have been used with few side effects reported. Most frequent is itching that resolved when removed. Any severe side effect are associated with the dog eating the collar (not advised method of use :B)

Most report good efficacy and no reactions.

Being retired, I have no personal experience, but did a check on the veterinary boards I still have access to.

  • We now use Nexguard which is a flea and tick chewable. We've used it for over a year while we full-time, so in various campgrounds, woods, leaves, trails, etc and we have never found a tic on her. You can get it from your vet.
  • Sorry but we've never heard of Scalibor. We use Bravecto with great success. It's fairly new but was vet recommended.
