Anyone who thinks dogs are just "non-thinking animals" - hasn't owned a smart dog. My late Aussie Ike was a freaking EINSTEIN. We live on a lake; and our family gathers on the 4th of July to go out on our pontoon boat that night, to watch fireworks. Normally, you can't take the boat out without the dogs coming along. As everyone was getting on the boat, there was only our oldest son and myself, and Ike, still in the house. I turned to Ike and said "We're going on the boat to see fireworks. Noisy booms. Do you want to go, or stay home??" He looked at me, paused, then went and laid down in the kitchen. He didn't like fireworks - wasn't scared of them, but certainly didn't enjoy them.
My son was standing there, with his mouth hanging open, then finally said "I don't know what stuns me more - that you just said that to your dog; or the fact that he answered you?!
