I might add that if you have NEXUS cards, it is 100 percent up to you to determine what the current rules are from the gov't website or a senior officer. Not an officer at a booth, a friend or on a forum. You can lose your NEXUS cards if you have it wrong.
One odd rule is that you cannot take a spouse's clothes across the border if the spouse isn't with you. I normally don't but did a few weeks ago due to DW's dad just going into a care home and things getting messed up. The officer at the booth asked me who owned the TT and if I had any of her clothes and I had to say I had some of her clothes. The officer sternly told me that is not permitted and that I risk losing my NEXUS card but fortunately he let me go. I've heard of folks losing their cards simply because they had an orange with them.
