What was I thinking??? :-(

I was getting the motorhome ready for a quick trip, and since puppy Ben has never seen it, I backed it out of the barn, let him look/sniff... we practiced going up and down the steps, etc. I mean, surely he could smell the fact that Jack and Jimmy had been in the big white thing before?

But to confirm to him that it was a wonderful thing to be in - I let Jimmy and Jack out of my office. Once they spotted the big white beast out of its garage - they went crazy and jumped right in. Ben happily followed!

And now I have the 2 older dogs all buzzed up about camping :-( Jack is whining, Jimmy is glued to my side. They are going to drive me CRAZY until we actually hit the road.... sigh....

I'm sure ALL the dogs on this forum react similarly?? I can't imagine a dog who doesn't like to camp!

  • Andy gets excited when he sees me packing our clothes, then the food we are taking along. This is usually the day before we leave. On the actual day of departure he is constantly underfoot, waiting for that magic moment when I snap that leash on his collar. Then he drags us to the truck and jumps in the back seat, and settles in for the trip to the campground. Yes, he's a real camping dog just like Champ was.

  • We have 2 Boston's, Peanut and Sampson and we start packing a couple of nights ahead of time. Boy they know when its time and they both are glued to our sides to make sure we don't get out without them (like that would ever happen):B Then the day of departure Peanut knows and he walks around with us whinning constantly. When we open the door both of the fly out the door and go set at the passenger side of the truck waiting for us to open the door. Open the door and they fly up into the back seat and settle in for the ride.
  • Our retired racing Greyhounds used to get all excited when they saw us preparing the camper on the side of the house.

Once we finally left, they were asleep in the backseat of the truck before we got a block away.

At the gate of the campground they would wake up and prepare to CAMP!
  • Our ACD knows immediately when we start packing and gets so excited...but the minute DH gets home from work she cries this horrible shrill cry until we put her in the truck. She NEVER does this for anything else.
  • I sure hope our girl learns to like camping! For now....she hates everything about it...especially riding in the truck, (or car). She doesn't mind being in the trailer once it is set up, but until then she is a mess. We have to crate her during the process of setting up and then when leaving. First sign of travel, she hides!
  • Didn't realize my Jack Russels aren't that special. Even when I don't think I've shown any signs of packing the camper, they seem to know.
  • Smudge acts the same but seeing and hearing those ice cubes going into the cooler are what really get that tail wagging.

My husband and I are fond of our buckwheat hull pillows and when we would move them out of the bedroom, little Gizmo would KNOW that we were going somewhere!
  • Ours start getting excited when they see us carrying things out the door. We are slow and it takes us a week or two to get totally prepared for a trip. By the time we are ready to go, we have to be REALLY careful getting out the door, so they don't slip out. They get wired for sound. When the big moment arrives, and they see the leashes come out, they are bouncing off the walls.
  • Yes, ours do the same, then settle in for a nice long ride, only to get all excited as the truck slows down. We have to tell them to calm down, it's only a stop sign and not "camp"!
  • I dunno about camping, specifically. I mean, our dog just loves to GO. Anywhere. Anyhow. Anytime. Go! Go! Go! Go!!!!!!!!
