Now it's at zero and unplugging the brick is instantaneous shutdown with erroressage upom restart. The battery in direct 12.0 volt recharge refuses to take 5 milliamps right to the prongs.Can I make a cost effective separate battery input for the nightmare? A ox with a handle and roughly 20 volts supplied perhaps at a 10 amp hpur capacity? Lugging around an AGM battery and inverter for the brick is rubber-room grade rationale. The recharging of a home brew 19.5 volt battery is right up my alley but the lithium ion battery source is not. Yes I know the pecularities of lithium ion overcharge and undercharge and current limits.One source wants seventy dollars plus shipping for a "guaranteed original" battery for the Gateway. I may even have to settle for Nickel Metal Hydride. But 10lbs battery weight is the limit.Some hot spots in Mexico do not have an outlet within a hundred meters.

Hi Mex,What is defeating you is the energy management system that is installed in the laptop battery. It only takes one bad cell for the battery to be bad. (This is another chance for you to complain about "smart" chargers LOL)I wonder if you could not use Nicad's. Of course the LI charger could not be used. NMHydride also work but both have that dratted memory effect and both grow dendrites.I used to have an Amstrad that used C cells. 12 of 'em! It did not take me long to go to Nicads.

If it an older laptop, then it is likely a "new old stock" battery.I have had 2 like you are talking about. Thank God for Amazon Prime for no hassle return.

Are you sure Amazon is to blame? When you hit the buy button you can see if the item is sold and shipped by Amazon or an outside vendor.

my first laptop many years backi took the battery pack apart and rebuilt it using Nicads bought at allelectronicthe oem cells were also nicads, but yes you can rebuild itand a $5 drock bucker/booster will let you create any charge rate you need for the NEW battery pack

This forum is a great tool . Before making a purchase from either vendor . I would asked in the forum if anyone had dealt with them and how was the product . I would have also asked if anyone had dealt with any battery vendor that the were very satisfied with the product and service.

While both of his batteries were bought THROUGH Amazon, they were shipped from two different vendors. The first one was the standard battery. When it didn't work a larger battery was ordered from a different vendor therefore insuring it couldn't have been from the same production run as the first one in case there were problems with that run of batteries. Both sizes of batteries were the same as the two the original two OEM batteries.

If I were to guess, I would say both are new, but old batteries that have aged out. Gateway probably hasn't made a new battery for that laptop for several years.

Has anyone had experience with Batteries Plus rebuilding batteries? According to their adds they would take the battery pack apart and put new cells in it.

just like the chargers for laptops.. off brand are 20 dollars.. OEM is 75.. the reason is obvious.

batteries the same way.. type and average amp hours.. off brand will be less.. regardless what is printed on the case.

if Ni-cad.. rebuild one.

How about post the exact battery model and the computer model info.
Someone may have a more reliable source or Amazon vendor.

Don't need the inverter
If going that route
Just use a Drok dc voltage booster
12v in > 19v out

Mex you have two batteries packs, open one up
The specs on the case should tell you how many cells mAh etc..
You got lemons, make some lemonade 'so to speak'

I'd go the small AGM and small 300W inverter mice elf. Fool proof, cheap, reliable. Find a small bag with a shoulder strap and be done.
