Anser DirecTV with DVR-24 and Genie

Congratulations! You will love having the use of your Genie in your RV. While I may have mentioned this earlier, your HR34 (or the HR44) is the Genie. The other small boxes are called mini-Genie's or clients (C-31, C-41 and C-41W which is wireless only).

I'm all setup. HR34 in the RV living room and the Genie in the bedroom. I didn't have to make any changes in the bedroom. I got the DirecTV Anser and SWM. The Anser plugs into the SWM (2 cables) and one comes out and plugs into the side of my RV in the "satellite" plug. I went through the set-up on the TV and everything works great. I applied for the local channels out of L.A. and they are up and running fine. I love it!!! I get everything I had before...record 5 shows, watch in LR or BR. I don't have HD but I am more than happy with everything else.

Thanks Bill. I just talked to Winegard again (before I saw your post) and he said it sounds like the internal coax wiring in my rig is already fine...has a coax going to each receiver. Phew!!!

Will be ordering the Anser and SWM today...I will report back on how it goes.

Winegard said a coax has to go from the SWM splitter to the mini Genie. The mini in the bedroom currently has a coax going from the mini to the coax plug in the wall for the antenna. The DVR34 in the livingroom has a coax coming in from outside. It appears that the two coax from the Anser go into the splitter and one comes out to the RV. According to Winegard I need another coax from that splitter to the mini in bedroom. I thought I didn't need that. The -34 and mini are working fine right now on a pole mounted antenna. So why can't I just plug the SWM into the RV outside the same way I plug in the pole mounted antenna?

This seems like it shouldn't be such a hard thing to deal with. I don't know why it is so hard to come up with an answer as there is only one way...which is that?

The current DirecTV hardware requires that you run one coax from the antenna to the SWM splitter and then one coax from the splitter to each receiver/client. If you have a Genie plus 1 client you will need to run 2 coax cables, one to each device.
Wireless is being spoken about but as mentioned above is not working. The RF part only refers to the remote control. You do not need line of sight between the receiver/client and your remote.

The HR34 requires a cable from the DVR to the client. The HR44 has wireless capability, but the installers that I've talked to say that their wireless installs have been "iffy". I don't have any first hand experience with the HR44.

I saw them (on Winegard) and printed out the one I need. I'm calling them tomorrow to make sure I'm not forgetting anything. I'm in a park for the winter but want to move to another site in a week so I am now on the fast track since I can't take the pole-mounted antenna with me.

The Winegard website has some very good wiring diagrams for SWM and legacy systems.
