Anyone make a HD portable antenna to get directv

I was thinking of purchasing a portable satellite antenna that receives directv on HD. The ones I am looking at buying are the Winegard G2 or the King Flex. But I am unwilling to purchase one for around $500. If someone or some company has one in the works which would get HD for Directv. Or even if Directv has a plan to change their system.

Just wondering before buying.

  • I have a slimline 3 dish. But it takes time to set it up, aim it and take it down, especially if you are on the road say every two to three days. It takes me quite some time, the least is about 30 minutes. The most, well hours. That is the advantage to the portable automatic types. You put it out and it searches and finds the satellites. Total time expended. About 5 minutes.
  • I use a slimline 3 dish and manually aim it. You can buy them for $50-$75.....
  • I can't see DirecTV changing their system for HD. To get the bandwidth required for HD they had to go up in frequency, however, the higher frequencies are attenuated more by the atmosphere. This requires a larger dish to focus the weaker signal. While a smaller dish with perfect alignment can receive a HD signal it won't work for most situations.
