My Asus I7 gaming computer has symbols on F1 through F12. I use Windows7. The keys cover everything from Sleep, WiFi radio, key-board backlight, monitor brightness, monitor on/off, monitor switching, touch-pad on/off, to speaker controls.
Pushing "Fn" and "F7" keys at same time would turn the monitor "off". Doing it again would turn it back "on" (a possibility). Pushing "Fn" and "F8" toggles between computer screen and another monitor (another possibility). Using "Ctrl" and (F1 to F12 Keys) are for user defined functions. If none set up then nothing happens.
To get into safe mode you would start the computer and hold down the "F8" key before the Windows screen start-up screen. If it shows before you held down F8 you are too late.
