Blank Screen LaptopUPDATE!!!!

I had recently posted about my Toshiba not loading. "Computer won't load? starting March 14. I seemed to have resolved the problem with the exception of losing all my bookmarks. In the process of reinstalling bookmarks and the recovery discs that I had made when new I encountered another problem. I was also going to see if I could recover anything from my portable hard drive.

During a lapse in doing anything the computer went into the sleep mode that was part of the standard operation. It would awake when I tapped a key or moved the mouse. The last time I hit a key pad or moved the mouse nothing happened. Black screen. I could feel the heat from the hard drive so it seemed to be performing some activity. I used the power button to shut down. During a power up the machine seemed to start and I could hear the cd/dvd drive working but nothing beyond a black screen. During several attempts to power up, I used F2, F12 and F8 bit still nothing beyond a black screen, a warm hard drive and CD drive running.

Edit: Prior to the latest issue I was able to use normally, red email and use other internet functions. Between the resumption of normal functions with the exception of bookmarks and loading recovery discs and before the latest issues that Microsoft installed 49 updates. I have been reading about Microsoft updates creating issues for some.
  • Do you have function buttons for contrast? Maybe you inadvertently reduced the contrast to 0.
  • I am assuming the discs are booting. When I install one I hear the normal gyrations and then the disc spinning. Screen remains black.
  • Are your recovery disks bootable disks? If so, try starting up with those.
  • Do you have a cat? I know, a funny question but I had a big boy of mine sit on a closed laptop and he killed the display.
