Camper satellite tv problems

We have 3 "cable tv" ports in our camper. One in the living room/kitchen area, one in the bedroom, and one outside. We have 2 ports on the outside of our TT coming in, one labeled "Satellite" and one labeled "Cable". They all three work when hooked up to park cable, but the one in the living room/kitchen area is the only one that works when we hook up our portable satellite dish to the "satellite in" port on the outside. I have hooked up the sat to the cable port outside as well and nothing.

We have 2 ports (in the same plate) in the living room/kitchen area, but one is the powered (push button with the green light), OTA Jack antenna.

Maybe the "Satellite in port" only goes that far? to the Kitchen area? Haven't thought of popping the cover off and looking for a splitter of some sort up there?... until just now...

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

  • Your cable input goes to one or more splitters and sends the signal to the various output locations. Unfortunately, satellite TV does not work that way so the one satellite input you have goes to only one location and should have a separate output plate or loose coax where your satellite receiver should be located. From that specific location you may be able to send the output from that receiver to the other TV's in the coach but all will be watching the same channel. If you want to be able to watch more than one satellite channel on more than one TV then you are going to need 2 receivers and 2 different input cables. Dish does have a special dual tuner receiver which requires a specific antenna that allows one cable to carry 2 signals but only one will be in HD and the other SD.
  • You can use a splitter made for a satellite and use a Dish dual tuner receiver. That is what I use all the time.

That's as far as it goes. You will need a receiver for each TV. You I'll also have to run cable to each receiver as well. Or you can get the new wireless Genie system from DirecTv.

  • You can't use a splitter with satellite. So the one marked satellite probably just goes to the one tv.
